What is Thermoforming?
Thermoforming is a manufacturing process where a plastic sheet is heated to a pliable forming temperature, formed to a specific shape in a mold, and trimmed to create a usable product. The sheet, or “film” when referring to thinner gauges and certain material types, is heated in an oven to a high-enough temperature that it can be stretched into or onto a mold and cooled to a finished shape.
METHOD houses four shuttle and rotary thermoforming machines that take sheets up to 104″ x 121″. Our thermoformers enable us to complete various forming processes efficiently, at either low or high volumes. This includes; vacuum, vacuum snapback, free, pressure, plug assist, twin sheet, matched die and billow.
We work with the following materials regularly; however, we can thermoform using any material in the industry. Some examples are:
ABS, PS, PVC, PC, PET, PETG, PMMA, PE, HDPE, UHMWPE, PP, TPO, TPU and EVA.
Common brands are Royalite, Boltaron, Kydex and Sintra. Other considerations are virgin or reground (utility), fire rating, food grade certification and UV resistance level.
